A Solo Expert Invisible to Digital Search

Digital Innovations Design is a solo dental prosthetics studio in Salinas, California. Diego Ortiz Navarro handles every case from CAD design through ceramic finishing — over 10 years of hands-on experience, zero digital presence. No website, no brand identity, no search visibility.

The competitive landscape is dominated by corporate dental labs with full marketing departments and established web authority. DID needed a digital identity that could compete on precision and trust — not on scale or spend.

The Strategy

Brand System Before a Single Line of Code

Instead of jumping into development, we built the entire brand foundation first. Competitive research, positioning, voice guidelines, design system, and keyword architecture — so every production decision would be informed by strategy, not guesswork.

    Mapped the competitive landscape against corporate labs like Glidewell and Absolute Dental. Identified the positioning gap: no competitor combined single-technician accountability with a premium digital presence.

  2. 2. Brand Positioning & Voice

    Defined 'Calm Technical Authority' as the brand voice — confident and clinical without jargon or hype. Codified the single-technician model as the core differentiator rather than a limitation.

  3. 3. Design System Creation

    Built a complete visual system inspired by CT scans and dental imaging: Deep Slate, Clinical Cyan, Titanium Silver, and Warm Bone. Typography, spacing tokens, component patterns, and accessibility ratios documented before any production pages.

  4. 4. SEO & Keyword Architecture

    Ran API-driven keyword analysis across 300+ keywords. Solved the 5-page constraint with section-level H2 targeting. Discovered 'What is All-on-X' draws 762 AI searches/month vs 40 Google searches — reshaping content strategy for AI-era search.

  5. 5. Development & Launch

    Built on Astro with a custom CSS design system — no templates or page builders. Dark-mode-only interface, Space Grotesk + Inter typography, scroll-triggered reveal animations, and a case intake form hardened against spam. Shipped live at digitalinnovlab.com.

The Work

A Visual System Built for Clinical Trust

The design direction draws from CT scan and dental imaging aesthetics — dark, cinematic, precise. A deliberate contrast to the clinical-white look most dental labs default to. We secured a domain name, designed a custom logo rooted in the CAD/blueprint visual language, and documented every color, typeface, and component in a complete brand guidelines system before production began. The live site ships dark-mode-only, pairing Space Grotesk headings with Inter body copy across a cyan-accented slate palette.

With only 5 pages and no blog, every H2 had to earn its place. We ran API-driven keyword analysis across 300+ keyword phrases and assigned section-level targets — treating each H2 block as a mini-landing page with its own keyword cluster.

Discovery: 'What is All-on-X' draws 762 AI searches/month versus only 40 traditional Google searches — a 20x ratio signaling that AI-era search is reshaping how dental professionals find information. Flagged as the first blog article for when a blog is added.

Originally planned Dropbox file requests for case submission. Research revealed HIPAA risks for patient-adjacent file handling. Pivoted to Jotform HIPAA with BAA before writing any production code.

AI Search Volume Discovery

API-level keyword analysis revealed AI search traffic dwarfing traditional Google volume for key dental terms. Content structure informed by LLM discoverability, not just traditional SEO.
